GreenEz wood striper Vs chemical wood strippers

Hello there:

Welcome to the Detalles.

As a faux finisher I am always looking out for new products in the market that will help me to make the job easier. A friend of mine after seeing a post in Facebook about the greenEz stripper, asked me if I had tried it. Since I had a piece I wanted to refresh I decided to have a go. https://youtu.be/fyyI4IytKdc

In the past I have tried chemical stripers that work well and fast, but the downside to working with them is the strong fumes, the toxic compounds, and the difficult clean up with solvents

I decided to strip the table inside my house to test for odors intensity with GreenEZ.

I still added all the necessary precautions like floor coverings, keeping an open window, plus using a mask and gloves. I was impressed with the almost nonexistent odor of the product. That was a big plus to me, specially with my strong sensitivity to strong smells.

GreenEZ works, but it doesn’t strip the wood as well as I would have hoped for. I applied one coat of the stripper, tried it with and without the plastic wrap covering the area with the solution as the advertisement suggested, I then let it set for about an hour. Neither method helped me to get much off. I tried it on another area of the table adding a thicker layer of the product, which worked a little better.

The manufacturer suggested letting the product sit from 4 to 6 hours. I was working with a big table, and was able to test with that larger frame time as well. The results were the same as letting it set for an hour. You have to use lots of pressure and elbow grease with the spatulas to get rid of the paint, as well as several applications of the product to get rid of multiple layers.

Finish Table after stripping

When weighting project costs, 1/2 gallon of the greenEz with the recommended cleaner is around $80 vs 1 quart of any chemical strippers being around $ 20 to $35 depending on brand without any cleaning product.

GreenEZ wood stripper, general overview:

.- Expensive

.- No harsh smell or toxic fumes, easy to use, easy clean up with soapy water

.- It is soy-based and free of toxic compounds

.-It is slow working

.-Coverage rate according to the manufacturer: approx. 100-150 sq. ft. per Half Gallon.

My table was approximately 35 sq ft and I used the whole half gallon for this stripping project.

VS

Chemical strippers

.-More affordable

.- Strong odors and toxic compounds

.-work faster

.- Clean up with mineral spirits

In conclusion you have to weight down the pros and cons and also what is important to you. I hope this comparison helps you to make a better decision.

Until next time,

Make a difference with the details.
