The Beauty of a Relaxed Table

Sometimes, instead of a formal dinner with a place setting for everyone, I choose a buffet-style brunch. It feels a little more relaxed—and, honestly, it makes entertaining so much easier.

I like to set everything up the day before: the dishes, utensils, serving pieces, and all those little details that make the table feel special. Then, when my friends arrive, I can forget about the preparations and simply relax, visit, and enjoy the moment with them.

Decorating a buffet table doesn’t have to be complicated. Start by choosing a color palette and coordinating the pieces you already have. Then add a simple arrangement to bring everything together.

I normally prefer fresh flowers, but sometimes you have to work with what you have. This artificial boxwood plant looks beautiful tucked into a lovely piece of crockery. It’s an unexpected little detail, but those are often the details that make a table feel personal.

Presentation matters. Arrange your plates, utensils, serving dishes, and decorative pieces on the table. Move things around. Try different combinations. Step back and look at the whole table. Sometimes the best arrangement is the one you discover by simply playing with what you have.
